Dr. Jesse Kelly
Dr. Jesse J. Kelly was born June 11, 1957 to Mr. Leroy and Mrs. Christine Kelly in Prentiss, Mississippi. He is the ninth child of Mr. & Mrs. Leroy Kelly. He graduated from Wingfield High School and then matriculated to Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi, earning a B.S. degree in Mass Communications, a Master of Divinity in pastoral Ministry from Wesley Biblical Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi and a Doctor of Ministry Degree at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Kelly is married to Lady Andrea Kelly and currently resides in Jackson, MS.
Dr. Kelly humbly serves God and his community through the ministries he has
established. He was called into the ministry at the age of 17. Bishop Davis ordained him November 19, 1982. Dr. Kelly began his pastorate May 2, 1982 as pastor and founder of St. Paul Church of God in Christ in Jackson, Mississippi, where approximately eight members were on the roll. St. Paul COGIC now has approximately 300 active members. Under his leadership Dr. Kelly has a leadership team of over twenty-five ministers, elders and missionaries as well as a strong stewardship board.
Dr. Kelly’s local ministry branches into all directions. The Young Adult ministry, Annual Educational Scholarship program issuing monetary scholarships annually to students entering or returning to colleges or universities; a daily prayer ministry to strengthened the body of Christ walk with the Lord, a prison ministry in the state correctional facilities. God continues to bless the church family under his leadership to maintain a radio broadcast on WMPR , 90.1 FM, Fridays from 12 noon to 12:30 P.M. reaching an audience in Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. These are a few of the twenty ministries that operate at St. Paul.
Dr. Kelly has served as District Superintendent of the Jackson District Second Ecclesiastic Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ Southern Mississippi for the past 25 years. The Jackson District has seven churches. He accepted on March 24, 1997, and has served diligently as pastor at Historic St. Hill Church of God in Christ in Brandon, Mississippi for nineteen years. He is the organizer of the West Jackson Crusade that feeds the natural and spiritual man preaching the gospel on the streets of Jackson for over 30 years. He is the first African American Director of Chaplaincy for the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County. He oversees a staff of 10 employees, 800 volunteers engaged in outreach ministries in the prison facility, and over 2,500 male and female inmates.
Dr. Kelly and the St. Paul Church Family has recently acquired for the St. Paul Church of God in Christ land and property worth over one million dollars. And is expanding the ministry to include a Re-entry home for ex-prisoners, which has been operating for the last five years, a community outreach center that will provide food pantry, clothes closet, tutoring, job placement and a youth center, is also a part of his vision. The church motto states “A Christ Centered Wholistic Ministry Reaching the City for Christ” to benefit the whole man to make him entire wanting nothing in Christ Jesus. A genuine Christian leader, Dr. Kelly is accessible to the people he serves, and refuses to deviate from holiness principles and responsibilities.
